1. Jonathan Guerrero
Liquid Resources
Jonathan Guerrero translates spending habits across one week into a visual of flowing water. The data is based on the amount of money spent and the number of receipts accumulated.
2. Zhiwei Li
Sustainable Cities
Zhiwei Li’s graphing of the danger to world cities from rising sea levels translates the threats of climate change into three-dimensional form. Based on traditional Chinese iron art, the length of iron corresponds to the threat to cities by rising seas.
3. Jonathan Topolski
Algae Bloom
Red tide occurs when seawater has an overabundance of algae with a red pigment. The cause of these tides is dinoflagellates, a type of protist and algae that grow in warm waters. The series of hand-painted slides show red tide in successive algal blooms, which have more than tripled since 1970.
4. Jake Northington
Water, Wealth, and Race
The artist compared water quality to demographics (race and wealth) in four cities in North San Diego County. The project’s results showed that the higher the income and whiter the population, the cleaner the water was. Jake Northington probes the relationship between a city’s population and its water quality and encourages viewers to examine their own water sources.
5. Ruiqian Ding
No-water Campus
The sculpture reveals water used on campus. The accumulated wax reflects how much water is used in the different buildings on campus, with the quantity of melted wax proportionate to water usage at that location.
6. Lesley Rivera
Water Use in a Woodcut
The woodcut depicts water usage on campus in 2010, which is the highest water usage, and in 2018, with a significant reduction in water use. The number of drops reveals the proportionate shift in water use .

Symbiosis interactive board
Symbiosis is an interactive dry erase panel depicting human interconnectedness with nature. Viewers can write responses to the artist’s visual composition combining human and plant life.
